The Institute of Electrical Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering of the TU Dresden has two professorships: electrical power systems as well as high voltage and high current engineering.
The Department of High Voltage and High Current Engineering traditionally investigates electrical equipment with regard to its voltage and current load. Research focuses on grid planning, protection and control technology, power quality, stability calculation and stability assessment as well as dynamic simulations of producers and consumers.
The research focus of power quality was already introduced in the 1970s at the chair. One focus is on low- and higher-frequency emissions in public low-voltage and medium-voltage grids. The department conducts both basic and application-oriented research projects together with national and international university and industry partners.
One noteworthy feature is the strong interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers in mechanical engineering and economics and social sciences.
